ThinkeringSpace was funded by the MacArthur Foundation’s Digital Media, Learning & Education initiative to create flexible, interactive environments that encourage school age children to tinker with things, reflect on what they discover, and express ideas in ways they can share with others.

ThinkeringSpace acknowledges the importance of a hands-on approach to the discovery and exploratory learning processes. In its first year, the goal was to create full-scale behavioral prototypes, then to evaluate the prototypes through qualitative research sessions with kids. It continued as an attempt to develop concepts of "virtual tinkering" to engage children of different learning styles. The project also assessed the role of institutional spaces, such as schools, museums and libraries in shaping learning and play.

The Lunch Launcher was a finalist at the 2005 Toys Designed by Artists competition and national exhibition. The launcher was inspired by homemade catapults. It combines found objects and silver-smithing to create an interactive weapon for lunchtime delinquency.

The Toys Designed by Artists collection at the Sam Strauss, Sr. Gallery exhibits more than 200 works acquired from annual juried competitions that have been held for the past 36 years. Inspired by Alexander Calder's circus and the notion that artists can use materials creatively to express whimsy and a sense of play in objects, the collection includes works in virtually all art media.

Co-op was designed in response to Chicago Public Radio's question: What is the future of media? It is a web-based program which parses blog and forum entries, transposing them in a useful, navigable format based on important seeds of information.

Co-op constructs a feedback loop between the radio station and its listeners, allowing listeners to shape content. A system of informational hierarchy sorts for patterns and similarity among stories to give Chicago Public Radio insight into important threads and ideas. The program is valuable to both Chicago Public Radio and its listeners, by highlighting and tracking user feedback based on importance and relevance.

MemorAide was designed to improve patient compliance in the home. It is a cup that lights up as a reminder that a patient needs to take his or her medication, and provides a cup for water. MemorAide contains a UV light that sanitizes the cup after every use. It addresses the three main needs for improving adult compliance.

Privacy: Sometimes people need visual reminders, but wish to maintain their privacy, and don't wish to leave out pill bottles when having company. MemorAide provides a reminder without appearing clinical.

Visible: Visual reminders are the most common methods people employ to remember their medication, but keeping prescription containers in plain sight is undesirable. The product's light is a conspicuous reminder in a functional package.

Ritual: Medications are often kept with other objects accessed daily, and combining the cup with the reminder creates a simple ritual for taking medication.

Unilever commissioned designers to create innovative solutions for one of its lucrative categories: antiperspirant and deodorant.

Axe Attached clips onto a gym bag or carabiner for maximum portability.

Axe Emergency has the form factor of a credit card. It unfolds and bends to reveal a strip of deodorant for a one-time, emergency use.

Axe Stacked eliminates the need to smell all the deodorants in the aisle. It contains four samples with the same amount of product as one regular bar.

As age compression and online gaming continue to influence play, Mattel looks at alternative play experiences. Fantasy Little League is a collaboration between Yahoo! and Mattel to create a fantasy “toy game” that is played in groups and encourages positive social team experiences. FLL is a combination of All-Star Baseball, a short lived baseball game played with cards, and Fantasy Baseball, an extremely popular online game typically played by and geared towards adults. In this game, kids are able to personalize and create their own baseball cards. These cards are then used to play the game with friends and further their Fantasy Little League online community.
